(NRMA 4 STAR Rated) Welcome from your hosts, Bill & Lillian Hardie Escape. Slip into the comfortable cloak of the OLD NELLIGEN POST OFFICE GUEST HOUSE. Our guest house has become renowned for its position at the crisp white cutting edge of excellence in hospitality. We offer bed and breakfast in an environment that slows down the busiest soul but gives you the freedom to spend your days as you like. Presently proposed for heritage listing, our home was built in 1900 and is a celebration of Australian Architecture of that period. Built entirely of Australian cedar, it originally housed Nelligen's Post Office and residence and was home to families of the town's Postmasters and Postmistresses. Modern amenities have been discretely included to cater for today's most discerning guests. Three double guest rooms have been tastefully decorated with your comfort in mind. All boast finely fitted ensuites and have colour TV, fridge and tea and coffee making facilities, none of which intrude into the home's historic ambience. Breakfast is a celebration. We offer freshly squeezed orange juice and carefully selected fresh fruit salad. Homemade muesli or cereal follows and a full cooked course with a Scottish flavour takes you away from the realm of fast food into one of a more tranquil nature. Finish with homemade breads with jam and marmalade and a selection of delicious local bush honeys. Vegetarian and other special diets provide us with an opportunity to demonstrate our culinary versatility. We also serve a fine four course dinner and for your convenience we are BYO. Our picturesque township is an old river port which in the past served as the point of embarkation for the numerous gold towns in the area. It has a rich history and is renowned for its steamship days yarns, its nearby goldfields and its famous bushrangers tree where the notorious Clarke brothers were chained awaiting deportation to Sydney for trial. The town hugs the banks of the spectacular Clyde River, world famous for its purity and its Clyde River Oysters. Our Old Post Office Room and the Front Parlour Room look down on to the town's wharf and the natural splendour of this magnificent waterway. We are surrounded by the wonders of the South Coast, Australia's Nature Coast. Breathtaking National Parks, State Forests and pristine beaches are close by, galleries exhibiting the works of distinguished artists are numerous in the area. For those who wish to venture into the jewelled caverns of history, we offer informative and interesting guided tours.
